About

Muffy Lavens had a passion for writing from a young age, always creating short stories and scripts. While she did not immediately find her way to a writing career, Lavens eventually took on the world of public relations. Currently she is the Press and Public Relations Director for the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. In this she leads the public relations efforts for various shows, and works closely with press agents and journalists to create stories, promotional materials, and marketing assets that engage audiences and increase exposure for the Van Wezel.

Prior to joining the Marketing Department at the Van Wezel, she was the Media Relations Manager for Southeastern Guide Dogs, a nonprofit organization that trains elite working dogs for people with vision loss, veterans with disabilities, and children with significant challenges such as vision loss or the loss of a parent in the military.

This was not the original career path Lavens had planned on taking. Growing up as a competitive figure skater, she planned on breaking into show business through her sport. However, a collegiate synchronized skating team recruited her putting show skating on hold. During her studies, Lavens rediscovered her love of writing and imagery. That combined with the joy of presenting she got from the skating world, she found her way to the public relations field and to a coordinator position with Feld Entertainment, working specifically with Disney On Ice.

After three years at Feld Entertainment, Lavens was promoted to the Assistant Manager of Global Public Relations. She worked on various events for the company’s touring productions, along with developing press materials and promotional campaigns with a focus on global efforts for Disney On Ice and Marvel Universe LIVE! She maintained relations with national media outlets and influencers to increase coverage and exposure of the Feld Entertainment portfolio.

Before joining Feld Entertainment, Lavens worked for double E public relations, an agency based in New York City. She worked with many digital companies and B2B clients including Soap Creative, Heat, Struck and B-Reel. She has also worked as a freelance photographer.

Lavens has a Bachelor’s of Arts from Adrian College and a Master’s of Science from New York University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog, volunteering at animal shelters, and teaching Zumba. She is an active member of the Tampa Bay chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the Florida Public Relations Association, and the alumnae chapter of her sorority, Alpha Phi.
